The batting coach of Indian cricket team Vikram Rathour has backed Ishan Kishan to come good after the southpaw failed to perform well in the opening match of India in the 2023 World Cup against Australia on Sunday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Kishan opened the batting against the Aussies in the absence of Shubman Gill, who is reportedly yet to gain fitness. The left-handed batsman slashed at a ball outside the off-stump from Mitchell Starc. All he could do was find an outside edge and get caught in the slip cordon.
In the pre-match conference, Rathour said, “He has opened in the past. He has played as an opener. There were no specific discussions on that. He understands; that was one of the reasons he was on the team. We know that he can bat both in the top order and in the middle order. So, I mean, he has done that before. There are no specific discussions, but I am hoping that he comes good.”
