The England cricket team set a new world record in ODIs after their innings in the campaign opener match of the 2023 World Cup, i.e., ENG vs. NZ World, at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, on Thursday. Jos Buttler and Co. became the first team in ODI history to have all 11 batters score in double digits. This is the first instance of all 11 players scoring in double digits in 4658 ODIs.
It is to be noted that England also holds the record for the highest-ever score in the history of ODI cricket. They smashed 498-4 against the Netherlands in June last year.
Although the Jos Buttler-led side set a new record, their batting overall was underwhelming, as they were bundled out for 282/9 in 50 overs. Joe Root was the top scorer for the side with 77 runs. When asked to bat first, England started off on a positive note but kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were restricted to 300.
