The India Women Cricket Team beat South Africa by 143 runs in the first ODI match of the three-match series at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. After opting to bat first, India posted a score of 265 runs at the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted 50 overs, riding on a scintillating hundred by SmritiMandhana off 127.
In reply, South Africa’s women cricket team chase never got going as they kept on losing wickets with Indian bowlers all over them right from the word go, and they got eventually bundled out for 122 in 37.4 overs, with wrist spinner Asha Sobhana shining on her ODI debut, picking 4/21 in 8.4 overs.
Earlier in the day, India got off to a horrible start, losing the big scalp of opener ShafaliVerma (7 off 12) in the fourth over, who edged one straight to wicketkeeper SinaloJafta against MasabataKlaas. India further got the second blow in the form of DayalanHemalatha (12 off 16), who got the leading edge, which went straight to SuneLuus at mid-off. However, Mandhana looked at ease at the other end, occupying the crease, and got used to the conditions.
