The captain of the Indian cricket team, Rohit Sharma, broke the 40-year-old record as he smashed the fastest century by an Indian in the World Cup while leading his team to an 8-wicket victory over Afghanistan. Local hero Virat Kohli also helped himself to a 50 on a batting-friendly track and guided India home with a half-century.
Captain of Afghanistan cricket team Hashmatullah Shahidi 80 and Azmatullah Omarzai 62 led Afghanistan’s resistance against a buoyant India bowling attack as they finished with 272 runs at the loss of 8 wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday. Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers when he finished with figures of 4/39.
