On October 18, which is Wednesday, the New Zealand cricket team defeated Afghanistan by 149 runs in the Maths 16 of the ICC men's World Cup 2023 at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai. While putting in to bat first, the Kiwis put up a total of 288, with Glenn Phillips, Tom Latham, and Will Young smashing fifties.
Afghanistan were bowled out by last time's runner-ups for just 139, with Lockie Ferguson and Mitchell Santner picking up three wickets each. Spinner Santner also achieved the milestone of picking 100 scalps in ODI format.
In the next match, the New Zealand cricket team will face India on Sunday, while Afghanistan will play Pakistan on Monday. With four wins, the Kiwis are currently at the top of the table, while Afghanistan moved down to the 9th spot.
