New Zealand’s Test cricket team captain, Tim Southee, has heaped praise on emerging Indian fast bowler Mayank Yadav, who has impressed everyone with his raw pace and control in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2024 season.
Mayank Yadav’s debut against Punjab Kings was a memorable one. He clocked a scorching 155.8 kmph delivery and bagged the man-of-the-match award. He followed this up with an even faster delivery (156.7 kmph) against Royal Challengers Bangalore, becoming the first ever IPL debutant to win consecutive man-of-the-match awards. In these two matches, he picked up a staggering six wickets for just 41 runs.
Tim Southee, a highly respected swing bowler himself, was particularly impressed by Yadav’s ability to control his raw pace. Tim Southee: “Yes. But I think the thing that is very pleasing that comes with his pace is his control. A lot of guys that have that out-and-out raw pace don’t always have the control. He looks to have control as well as pace. I am looking forward to following his progress not just at the IPL, but after it as well.“
