In the semifinals of the Women's T20 Asia Cup 2024 at the RangiriDambulla International Stadium on July 26, the India women cricket team registered a thumping 10-wicket victory over Bangladesh. With the win, the Women in Blue uphold their record of appearing in each of the editions of the Asia Cup. They have won eight out of nine editions since 2004, with Bangladesh winning one title back in 2018.
Winning the toss, Bangladesh decided to bat first and faced a challenging start right away as they lost Dilara Alter in the very first over to India’s Renuka Singh. After the poor start, there was no revival of Bangladesh’s batting as they kept losing wickets and finished on the score of 80-8 in 20 overs. India’s Renuka Singh and Radha Yadav were the pick of the bowlers, as they claimed three wickets apiece.
Chasing the target of 81 runs, openers ShafaliVerma and SmritiMandhana came out with positive intent as they put the bad deliveries to the boundary. The bowlers of Bangladesh were unable to even take one wicket as India swot away Bangladesh by 10 wickets with 54 balls remaining to enter the Asia Cup 2024 final. Verma finished with an unbeaten 30-run knock, and Mandhana finished with an unbeaten 45-run knock.
India will now play against the winner of the Sri Lanka vs. Pakistan Semifinal 2 on July 28 in the final of the Women’s Asia Cup 2024.
