Matthew Breetzke made history on February 10, 2025, by becoming the first batter to score over 150 runs in his ODI debut. The South African opener scored 150 runs off 148 balls against New Zealand, which included 11 fours and 5 sixes.
Breetzke surpassed the previous record held by West Indies’ D.L. Haynes, who scored 148 runs against Australia in 1978. Before Breetzke, Colin Ingram held the South African record for the highest score on debut, scoring 124 against Zimbabwe in 2010.
