To Stage A Memorable Comeback Against NZ In Pune Test Washington Sundar Bags seven-Wicket Haul

Washington Sundar made a spectacular return to the Indian Test squad by claiming a seven-wicket haul on the first day of the second Test against New Zealand in Pune. Brought in to counter New Zealand’s left-handers, Sundar’s inclusion ahead of Kuldeep Yadav raised a few eyebrows, but his performance justified the decision. Sundar’s accurate off-spin proved to be a crucial asset, as he dismantled the Kiwi batting lineup with remarkable control and precision.

His spell included crucial dismissals that shifted the momentum in India’s favor. The turning point came when Sundar broke the threatening 88-run third-wicket partnership between Ravindra and Conway by dismissing the former with a sharp delivery that spun past the outside edge. Ravindra’s dismissal was quickly followed by Blundell’s, who fell off the last ball of the session, giving India much-needed momentum heading into Tea.

Sundar exploited the conditions effectively, mixing flight with variations in pace to trouble the batters. His wickets came at key intervals, preventing New Zealand from establishing any dominant partnerships and keeping them on the back foot throughout the day.

Sundar’s dream spell continued as he claimed the prized wicket of Daryl Mitchell right after the break, removing him for 12 runs. Mitchell, who has been in fine form in recent months, was deceived by Sundar’s flight and turn, edging one to the slips. With the Kiwis struggling at 252/9, the pressure mounted as India capitalized.
