Venkatesh Iyer of KKR reveals back-up plan and it isn’t coaching

Kolkata Knight Riders batter Venkatesh Iyer is determined not to rely solely on cricket for his future, prioritizing his education alongside his sporting career. The Rs 23.75 crore buy revealed his ambition to pursue a PhD in Finance, emphasizing that while a cricket career may not last until the age of 60, education is a lifelong asset that benefits both on and off the field.

In an exclusive interview with The Indian Express, Iyer shared that academics serve as a perfect “switch-off” from cricket, helping him manage the pressure associated with the game. He believes that being educated allows him to make better decisions during matches. Having completed his MBA, Iyer is now focused on further studies.

“I want cricketers to educate themselves not just with cricketing knowledge but also general knowledge,” he stated, encouraging fellow players to pursue their degrees. He expressed pride in his academic journey and intends to be known as Dr.VenkateshIyer in the future. Balancing cricket and academics has been challenging, but Iyer views education as essential for personal growth and decision-making in sports.
