Rajasthan Royals (RR) CEO Jake Lush McCrum found himself in the spotlight following RR’s 12-run defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in IPL 2025. The loss marked RR’s fifth consecutive defeat, equaling their worst losing streak since 2009. Chasing a challenging target of 206, RR started strong with Yashasvi Jaiswal’s explosive 49 off 19 balls. However, the middle order faltered, and despite Dhruv Jurel’s steady 47 off 34 balls, RR fell short at 194/9.
Shortly after the match, a viral video showed McCrum walking briskly toward Tonique, a popular liquor store in central Bengaluru. Captured by an RCB fan, the footage sparked social media speculation that McCrum was seeking to drown his sorrows after the crushing defeat. While some viewed it as a routine stop, the timing added an off-field twist to RR’s ongoing struggles.

Currently languishing in eighth place with just four points from nine matches, Rajasthan Royals face a tough challenge ahead against table-toppers Gujarat Titans. McCrum, who has been with RR since 2017 and CEO since 2021, now faces pressure to help steer the franchise toward a much-needed turnaround in IPL 2025.
