The all-rounder of the Indian cricket team, Shardul Thakur, had a decent outing against Afghanistan in the IND vs. AFG World Cup 2023 match in Delhi. It is to be noted that Shardul also completed a fine catch on the bowling of Hardik Pandya to give the birthday boy his first wicket of the game. After the match was over, the Indian cricket team had a mini-celebration in their dressing room.

During their ceremony, Shardul Thakur was adjudged fielder of the day by the Indian camp as he took over the title from Virat Kohli himself. Earlier, Kohli was adjudged the best fielder by the Indian camp. To note, Kohli completed a fine catch while being stationed at the first slip against Australia. He took the catch from Mitchell Marsh to give India their first break in their World Cup opener.
