The former captain of India presented Sarfaraz Khan with his Test cap and congratulated him on the start of a long career ahead of the third Test against England in Rajkot.
Sarfaraz was handed his Test debut against England, slotting in India’s middle order. He got his chance after Shreyas Iyer was omitted from the squad for the final three Tests and KL Rahul failed to regain fitness in time for the Rajkot Test.
There was a celebratory mood around the Indian camp as Sarfaraz and Dhruv Jurel received their respective test caps from Kumble and Dinesh Karthik.
Speaking to Sarfaraz while handing him his test cap, Kumbel said he’s really proud of what he’s achieved while wishing him the best for a long career ahead. Safaraz became the 311th player to play Test cricket for India.

Kumble said, “I am really proud of you and the way you have come through. I am sure your dad and family are extremely proud of what you have achieved. I know you have done all the hard work. There were some disappointments, but despite that, all the runs that you’ve scored through the domestic season have brought you here.”
Kumble added, “Well done to you. I’m sure you will have lots of wonderful memories to make. It’s the start of a long career; only 310 people have played before you. All the best.”
