There are chances that we might see Dravid play for the Indian cricket team once again. His son, Samit, has rolled back the years. The 18-year-old batter has grasped the attention of everyone after hitting his father’s trademark cut shot during the warm-up match between Karnataka State Cricket Association XI and Lancashire.
Ahead of the start of the County Championships on April 5, the 2-at match being played in Bengaluru is serving as a pre-season training camp for Lancashire.
Coming in to bat with KSCA XI at 62/3, it didn’t take long to settle in the middle. He hit his father, and Samit hit his trademark cut shot off a short ball by left-arm spinner Josh Boyden. The batsman got rocked back and rolled his wrists to guide the ball to the boundary.
Despite getting off to a nice start, Samit failed to go on as he was outdone by Jack Morely, ending up with a 45-ball 25. The rare failure comes as a shock, with the 18-year-old raking up the runs in the Cooch Behar Trophy. Samit scored 362 runs in 8 matches at an average of 36 and proved handy with the ball, as well as taking 16 wickets at 19.
