On Sunday, the batsman of team India, Shreyas Iyer, scored a quickfire half century on a batting paradise in Indore during the second ODI match between India and Australia. After being invited to bat, India lost Gaikwad early as Hazlewood took his wicket. However, Iyer took the attack to the Aussie fast bowlers and put India on the front foot. Netizens on social media praised Iyer for his cameo as India looked to seal the series at the Holkar Stadium. One of the users wrote on X, “Shreyas Iyer is also back in form. Now don’t waste time and start the World Cup," whereas another user wrote, “Welcome back, Shreyas Iyer...! First fifty in his return after a long injury break, vital member at 4 in the World Cup, and this is a great confidence boost,” and so on.
To note, Iyer had been under immense pressure to perform because earlier, on a good flat deck in Mohali, the returning Iyer failed to leave any impact and lost his wicket cheaply after scoring only 3 runs. With a lack of runs, his chances of breaking into the final XI for India’s first game against Australia in the World Cup looked bleak. However, the right-handed batter made a statement with his bat on Sunday.
