As the Delhi Capitals gear up to take on the Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Thursday, March 28th, wicketkeeper and batter Rishabh Pant is standing on the brink of a major milestone. Pant will become the first Delhi Capitals player to play 100 IPL matches for the franchise. He is making a comeback to competitive cricket after a 14-month break due to a road accident.
Rishabh Pant made his IPL debut in 2016 for the Delhi Capitals and has since been involved with only one team. Since 2016, he has missed only one IPL season, the IPL 2023, when he was recovering from the fatal car accident he suffered in December 2022.
Pant has played 99 games in the IPL up until now, scoring 2,856 runs at an average of just under 35. However, the Southpaw carries a healthy strike rate of almost 148, which makes him a desirable commodity in T20 cricket.
Moreover, he was handy with the gloves too. In 99 matches, Pant has taken 65 catches and forced 19 stumpings. The records Pant holds are good enough for Delhi Capitals management to make him lead the team. It will be yet another feather for Pant to become the first player to play 100 matches for the Delhi Capitals. He has been one of the most loyal players of the Delhi Capitals, and there couldn’t be a more befitting achievement than what he is about to achieve.
