Rishabh Pant has officially been named the captain of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. This announcement follows a record-breaking auction where LSG secured Pant’s services for an astonishing ₹27 crore, making him the most expensive player in IPL history. Previously associated with Delhi Capitals since his debut, Pant’s move marks a significant change in his career.
Reflecting on his transition, Pant admitted it was a difficult decision to leave DC, where he had played since he was 17. However, he emphasized the importance of moving forward as a professional cricketer. “I can’t be living in the past; I have to focus on building relationships with my new team,” he stated.
Pant takes over from KL Rahul, who captained LSG for the first three seasons. LSG owner SanjivGoenka expressed confidence in Pant’s leadership abilities, envisioning a long-term future with him at the helm. Pant aims to give “200 percent” to repay the faith shown in him and is excited about this new chapter. As he prepares for the upcoming season, Pant is determined to lead LSG to their maiden IPL title while building a strong team dynamic.
