With 15 million Instagram followers, CSK beats MI and RCB to become the first IPL franchise

Captain Cool MS Dhoni may have left the captaincy of the Chennai Super Kings, but it’s the craze that has made the franchise the most-followed IPL team. Although many claim that the Virat Kohli-associated Royal Challengers Bengaluru is the most loved franchise, the results clearly show that CSK is by far the biggest IPL franchise.
Breaching the $15 million mark, the franchise has beaten RCB and the Mumbai Indians to reach this milestone. In comparison to CSK, RCB has 13.5 million followers, while MI has 13.2.
Buying MS Dhoni at the 2008 auction is the biggest reason behind CSK’s popularity. Not only has he led the side to five IPL titles and has the most wins as a skipper, but he also has the most fans in world cricket.
His skills with the bat and gloves and his wits when leading the side have made him a fan favorite. Not just fans, but when experts rave over the tactics and match-reading skills of Dhoni. One has to imagine that once he leaves, the franchise may never have the same popularity.
