Wriddhiman Saha, the veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batter, is set to conclude his cricket career at the end of the ongoing Ranji Trophy season. At 40 years old, Saha revealed that he had initially decided to retire in 2023 but was persuaded by former captain Sourav Ganguly and his wife, Romi, to play one final season for Bengal. He expressed gratitude for their support, stating, "It was because of Dadi (Ganguly) and my wife that I decided to play this season.”
Saha's career has been marked by significant achievements, including 40 Test matches and nine ODIs for India, yet he often played in the shadow of MS Dhoni. He returned to Bengal after a two-year stint with Tripura, following a fallout with the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).
Despite battling injuries, Saha aims to make his last season memorable and hopes to help Bengal qualify for the finals. He has opted out of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction to focus solely on red-ball cricket before retiring.
Looking ahead, Saha plans to enjoy his retirement with family, travel, and watch Formula 1 races, reflecting on a fulfilling cricket journey
