The young opener of team India, Yashasvi Jaiswal, registered his maiden hundred in T20I against Nepal in the men's quarter-final match of the Asian Games 2023 at the Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field in Hangzhou.
Jaiswal, who is 21 years old, surpassed the previous record held by Shubman Gill, who scored a century against New Zealand at the age of 23. This achievement makes Jaiswal the youngest Indian to score a T20I century.
He exhibited phenomenal strokes on both sides of the wicket, denting the morale of the Nepalese bowlers. As he smashed the ball to all parts of the ground with supreme confidence and remarkable ease, Jaiswal seemed unfettered by the pressure of the massive stage.
Complementing Jaiswal's batting prowess was India's captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad. The duo carved out a 100-plus opening stand post, and the Indian team won the toss and decided to go on the offensive path. Gaikwad, known for his cool head and crisp stroke play, coupled with Jaiswal's audacious blasts, helped India construct a solid base for a mammoth score.
Jaiswal's remarkable achievement also placed him in the company of elite Indian cricketers who have scored centuries in T20 internationals. These players include Shubman Gill, Suresh Raina, KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, and Virat Kohli.
